Its Planting season! Yay but sometimes overwhelming especially if your not quite sure what too plant!
So here are some ideas if you are looking to start a herb garden. Herbs are one of my favourite things to grow because they are super easy, low maintenance, and don’t take up much space which means no matter where your living it could be on a farm or an apartment you can have a herb garden. It will most likely look a little different for example, living on a farm your herb garden might be off to the side of your regular garden whereas living in an apartment your herbs will probably be in some large pots maybe outside or inside.
Now let’s talk about planting your first herb garden… here are 5 herbs you can try out this year.
- Chives – Chives are great for seasoning, on a salad, etc. Chives are a perennial so once you plant them once they will come back every year if you let them!
2. Basil – Basil is great for soups, salads, and sauces and you can even put some on your pizza. This is a very versatile herb that is good to always have on hand!
3. Mint – You can use mint in pesto, fruit salads, and don’t forget mint tea. Mint is a good herb to have and it also helps to boost your immune system and improve digestive health!
4. Dill – Growing up no matter what we had in the garden my mom ALWAYS had dill. So this is a personal favourite but I think it’s just a great season overall and so good to have if you’re interested in making pickles or anything pickled!
5. Thyme – Thyme is a great seasoning you can use it for meats, stocks, soups, and so much more!
If you already have a herb garden what do you recommend? And if you’re just starting out, what herb are you most excited to grow? Feel free to comment below we would love to hear from you!
